Fran Snyder is a musician who’s hit on something that can truly breathe life into your musical career. In fact, his website (ConcertsInYourHome.com) receives thousands of visits each month from artists and audiences looking for a more intimate, fulfilling, and profitable alternative to the club, coffeehouse and bar gigs that most musicians are used to. The fact is, what music fan wouldn’t be tickled to death to have one of his or her favorite musicians perform live in their very own home? Thanks for the great podcast. Several of my musician friends and I have been doing monthly Guitar-B-Q moving monthly from house to house. We have found this to be a great way to introduce people new people to artists. Your podcast gave us some wonderful ideas on how to generate some income for the artists as well. Thanks for taking the time to do the podcasts.

Hey guys. GREAT podcast. I am slowly catching up as you can see I’m behind in my listening. But I wanted to say it was great to hear about this. I have been a member of Fran’s web site for a couple months. I heard about home concerts a while back and sent out letters to a bunch of friends and fans and managed to get 3 performances as a result. The one thing I thought I would add to the discussion is that a lot of people have objections to rearranging their home - but they often know of or can arrange for alternate venues for you.
As a result I have played “home concerts” in an art gallery, 2 different restaurants. In fact it was my 4th home concert before I actually played in someone’s home. Oh yeah I have also played in a backyard setting once.
Another thing I’m trying to do is to “give away” a house concert - with the idea that if I can get the word out more it will be worth it - and I can still sell CD’s when I give away the concert.
Yet another idea is a twist on the home concert approach. Someone suggested that since I write a lot of romantic love songs - (Yuck, I know) - I should try the idea of a small 2 - 3 song concert just for a couple or a small group. The idea is that for a special occassion or something like an anniversary or valentines day I will show up and sing 2 or 3 heart opening songs. Then I’m off to let the couple enjoy themselves. It is sort of like an old world serenade.
Anyway I’m excited to be trying all of these things and wanted to say thanks for the great podcast!

Has anyone every had any safety issues with doing home concerts? I’ve heard several harpists tell of the experience of getting a call for a background gig at someone’s one home only it’s a party of one. It’s some creepy guy that makes suggestive comments the whole evening. While I really like the idea of a small interactive concert I want to make sure that it’s legit!
